Author Biography

Luis Miguel Machín Martín, University of La Laguna

Graduated in Journalism, Master in Communication Sciences and Doctoral Student from University of La Laguna (Doctoral Program in Art and Humanities). He has worked in the advertising sector, in press offices of different companies and institutions and has colaborated writing articles in cultural sections and supplements of newspapers and magazines. His lines of research are focused on social communication, local journalism and film from different perspectives and approaches –film history, film as a cultural industry, film aesthetics and film narratives- with a special interest in Asian film such as the South Korean and Japanese cinema –specifically contemporary South Korean film industry, contemporary South Korean film aesthetics and narratives, contemporary South Korean crime film genre (which is the main subject of his PhD thesis) and the Japanese filmmaker Kinji Fukasaku and the representations of the 20th Century Japanese society in his filmography–. He also has written journal and conference papers in journalism, mass media and digitization processes in the communication companies –mainly newspapers– of the Canary Islands (Spain) –and specifically, of the island of La Palma– with a special emphasis on local elements that affect communication in the press of the Canary Islands and La Palma such as small population or limited geographical space, in order to identify how the globalization and the new communication technologies have impacted on the local journalism and local audiences.
