The dimensions of media competence in Spanish university students
Main Article Content
Abstract
The results of this work are framed in a coordinated R+D+i project called "Media skills of citizens in emerging digital media: innovative practices and educommunicative strategies in multiple contexts" developed between 2016 and 2019 at 11 Spanish universities. Specifically, in the subproject "Media skills of citizens in emerging digital media in university environments". Data has been collected from university students, through questionnaires and focus groups, to investigate their self-perception about the level they possess in the various dimensions of media competence and their development in each of them. The results are still uncertain. Only technological competence seems to be sufficiently covered out of the six main dimensions of media competence, although the students themselves demand training in this area. As for the rest of them, the usual shortcomings of traditional media education in analogic environments seem to be reproduced.
