Abstract

The historical memory of Caribbean Colombian communities has been largely forgotten due to multiple factors such as the armed conflict, the erasure perpetuated by hegemonic media, and the conventional educational curriculum. This project has studied the possibilities of transmedia co-creation as an educommunicative process to recover collective memory. Through an action-research methodology, the potential of extended reality technologies in recovering local historical memory is explored. The project was implemented in the communities of Atánquez and Badillo (César Department, Colombia), involving two educational centers where children and adolescents were trained in the use of technological tools and facilitated encounters with older members of their communities who preserve ancestral knowledge. The R&D project sequenced the process of memory recovery and transmedia co-creation in which students, teachers, professionals, and older community members participated, resulting in technological prototypes with content aimed at preserving the cultural history of the populations and facilitating their right to use ICTs and their right to culture. As results, transmedia co-creation is validated as a community research-creation methodology to recover collective memory. The potential of community audiovisual co-creation to improve cultural self-esteem and social development of the people is also proven.
