The influence of new media, emerging technologies and scientific discoveries on the creative field plays a renewed role in the 21st century. Today, there is an increasing emergence of artworks reflecting the impact of these developments in the socio-cultural sphere which provide a new approach to the complex idiosyncrasy of the digital paradigm. The aim of this special issue is to provide a genealogy of Media Art and an overview of the current digital research and artworks.
