Vol. 23, No. 1 | annual (January–December) | Published: 1/1/2025
In this 2025 issue, we continue our commitment to exploring the challenges and opportunities that emerging technologies present in the field of communication. This issue marks the beginning of our annual periodicity, with permanent and open publication throughout the year for the submission of articles, with the aim of fostering a continuous flow of innovative research addressing current challenges in communication.
The four Thematic Sections (TS) introduced in the previous issue remain the central axis of our journal, inviting researchers to delve deeper into the complex aspects of communication in the digital age.
TS1, “Interactive and immersive communication,” continues to focus on the transformation of communication through immersive experiences and digital interaction. However, this issue places special emphasis on the challenges these advances pose in terms of accessibility and equity, highlighting the importance of developing inclusive technologies to avoid digital exclusion.
TS2, “Audiovisual and multimedia innovation,” continues to examine how innovations in the production and consumption of audiovisual content are redefining the media landscape. This year, the debate is broadened to include the ethical and social implications of rapid technological obsolescence and its impact on cultural diversity and the democratization of access to media.
TS3, “Technological challenges of Media and Information Literacy,” persists in its analysis of the importance of digital competences in an interconnected society. In this issue, the challenges associated with lifelong learning in an increasingly complex media environment are explored in greater depth, where information overload and disinformation pose significant obstacles.
Finally, TS4, “Computational methods and Big Data in Communication,” continues to explore advanced data analysis techniques that are revolutionizing communication. Beyond technological advances, this issue addresses growing concerns about privacy, ethics in data use, and the impact of algorithms on the formation of public opinion and social behavior.
In this issue, we present original research that not only expands our understanding of the impact of these emerging technologies but also invites us to critically reflect on the challenges that accompany these advances. With this approach, ICONO 14 continues to consolidate its position as a benchmark in the dissemination of high-quality scientific knowledge, aligning itself with the most urgent and relevant debates in the field of communication for 2025 and beyond.
